Rev: 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Rev: 19:10 The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy.
The dragon having persecuted the woman twice forcing her to flee now has her cornered.
Having cornered the woman in the wilderness, the dragon makes war with the remnant of her seed. This remnant is identified as having two marks.
First, they keep the commandments which is true of those that love God. Obviously this verse is not referring to the people who live in Jerusalem.
Second, this remnant has the spirit of prophecy. These are the wise virgins who wake up and trim their lamps. And this wise remnant understands the vision given to Daniel and sealed for time, times and half a time. This vision can only be understood by those that know that this time period represents 1260 years and not a literal 1260 days.
Trace the commandment keeping remnant through history from the Waldensians witness in the dark ages thought the reformation until today and you will find the peculiar teaching that a year is a day in prophecy. Like a torch that has been passed from generation to generation, the spirit of prophecy is the hallmark of God's remnant.
How do you determine the true spirit of prophecy in a generation Jesus said would be characterized by false prophets? Two principles are worth remembering. First, true prophets call to come out of babylon. Babylon is Rome.
Second, false prophets are spoken well of. The true remnant has been the object of persecution through the ages. No one ever died defending futurism or preterism.
Elijah despaired that he alone was faithful in a generation that was given to idolatry. But God revealed there were 7000 who had not bowed the knee to Baal. So we know that even in the end time Sodom and Gommorah God will preserve a remnant for his for His glory.
You will find that remnant in the wilderness, not in Jerusalem.
